It’s ironic that, as a very creative guy, I never truly realized its vast power.
Sure, I was creative when it came to my advertising jobs.
I was creative in music while composing and writing songs.
I was creative in the process of writing my books.
And I am very creative as a transformative coach.
There were no limits to the stuff I could produce, I never doubted that capacity (and was well-paid for that), and yet I didn’t see how far my creativity actually extended, and how much of my life was painted by me, moment by moment.
It’s easy to see creativity in painters and their work, artists and their songs, or writers and their books.
Those are the results of creativity we’ve collectively embraced and easily recognize.
But what most of us don’t acknowledge is how we literally create everything.
Right now it’s raining in Amsterdam, the sky is quite gray, and I am having a blast.
In the past I blamed the rain for my mood, so what changed?
Is this happier rain?
No of course not, this is the delicious power of creation!
And since I’m mentioning rain: last year I visited Manchester for a couple of days.
It was the first time I was there, I had the best time of my life, and so I just couldn’t stop talking about my trip.
When people asked me ‘What was it about Manchester you liked so much?’, the only thing I could answer was ‘Everything!’.
I felt like a 5-year-old boy waking up early on a long Summer vacation day.
And that’s what created my experience.
I brought all the joy and the fun and the curiosity with me, and used it generously to paint my little adventure.
We can do this.
We can do this all the time if we start stretching who we are being.
The first step in creating a life that is WAY more exciting and fulfilling than the one you’re living right now, is realizing you’re already the artist responsible for this one.
The next step is to take matters into your own hand, open up your little boy’s or little girl’s box full of brightly colored crayons, and start imagining away.
Don’t forget that once upon a time you were an astronaut, a princess, a dragon, a world-famous soccer player, or a handsome vet working with animals in the rainforest.
Not too long ago you did this effortlessly, you WERE those things, and you never doubted them.
It IS deliberate stuff.
It is totally real and incredibly exciting.
And if this sounds challenging or too good to be true, if you believe you’ve lost your magic color box somewhere in time, send me an email.
That’s how you create the best coach for your life right now.
