It’s one of the million things I misunderstood.
One of the concepts that looked like a real, specific thing with fixed dimensions.
Love.
Feeling love.
Being in love.
Sharing love.
Celebrating love.
Love, love, love.
But what does it mean?
How does it look?
Or feel?
Can you do it?
Can you do it wrong?
Well, here’s what I’ve seen when it comes to coaching:
There are soft and gentle coaches, who whisper words of encouragement, very sparsely.
There are feisty and loud coaches, who like to shout their words of inspiration, who are all over the place.
And there is everything in between.
But what does that have to do with love?
What does it mean to coach from love?
Is it supposed to be soft, sweet, modest, patient?
Is it confronting, strict, sometimes harsh and critical?
Or is it all of that and sometimes none of that, depending on the human package it is delivered by?
My coaching comes from love, just like my living comes from love.
It’s a special mix.
Direct, kind, smart, engaged, with humor and perspective, and not much room for bullshit.
It can be really gentle, and it can be very energetic and in your face.
If I was forced to call it something, I’d probably go for
Tough love.
And if that’s what you need, you know where to go.
