{"id":46979,"date":"2022-06-05T10:35:36","date_gmt":"2022-06-05T10:35:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/?p=46979"},"modified":"2022-06-05T12:30:13","modified_gmt":"2022-06-05T12:30:13","slug":"trying-to-control-the-ocean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/2022\/06\/05\/trying-to-control-the-ocean\/","title":{"rendered":"Trying to control the ocean."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Rationality is a religion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We might not consider it that way, but it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s the preferred belief system of the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solidly built around the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In honor of the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And constantly relying on the mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A perfect, closed-loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A fear-based phenomenon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thinking, thinking, thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A dog with a million tails to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rationality is like a rich but vague promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its perceived power is \u2018control by knowledge\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If only we know enough, we\u2019ll figure it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life will finally be safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll be safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But of course, we can never know enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So anxiety is born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which we\u2019ll then try to run away from with more knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me tell you something:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trick is not to learn more, to collect more, to keep feeding our minds with more stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trick is to fall back into the confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To spread our arms and shout \u2018Come and get me you motherfucker!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then you\u2019ll find out that it\u2019s not real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing bad will happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The anxiety and the confusion and the lack of confidence were just ways to keep you imprisoned, fooled, and lost in the dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rationality is like a laptop bobbing on the ocean, trying to control the endless body of water and the waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not going to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How about just floating?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Photo by @shazmynphotographer, for Unsplash)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rationality is a religion.
