{"id":46916,"date":"2022-05-29T10:33:03","date_gmt":"2022-05-29T10:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/?p=46916"},"modified":"2022-05-29T10:33:08","modified_gmt":"2022-05-29T10:33:08","slug":"wheres-the-choice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/2022\/05\/29\/wheres-the-choice\/","title":{"rendered":"Where&#8217;s the choice?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Picture me at a buffet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Large tables filled with amazing food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m slowly progressing, stacking up my plate with culinary goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Higher and higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, look closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you see me choosing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It sure as hell feels like that to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, not that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This INSTEAD of that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bit more, a scoop more, a few chunks more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These, not those.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Choices, choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But do you REALLY see me choosing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because without the concept of choice, all you\u2019d observe was a guy collecting food on a plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All linear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, followed by that, and then that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Choice is nothing but a mental construct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weighing, the deliberation, the fear of not picking the right thing: all mental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ONLY mental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reality, there\u2019s just zucchini salad, carefully covered with chicken, green peas, asparagus, some lamb chops, tomatoes with garlic, baguette, and fried potatoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, this, and this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing after the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it doesn\u2019t feel that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it still is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aren&#8217;t we delicious?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Photo by @derickray, for Unsplash)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Picture me at a buffet.
