Sometimes we get what we want.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many times we don\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quite often we get what we don\u2019t want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in more than just a few cases, what we don\u2019t want also doesn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seems to be the game of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going from one want to the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trying to avoid the unwanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being surprised by the brilliance and beauty and importance of things we didn\u2019t want in the first place, but got anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And feeling utterly disappointed by finally having what we thought we wanted and needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too smart to realize our ignorance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too ignorant to stop doing what fucks us up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can learn almost anything, but the Game of Wants stays utterly elusive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s too complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s too much feeling involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Longing for security, comfort, and happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trying to control the doubt and the envy and the confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We really believe our wants and don’t wants are essential for our wellbeing, and we really believe that we have a clue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yet, no matter how many times we realize how crappy we are at predicting the future or seeing the bigger picture, we keep doing it anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We really believe we know what we need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it goes on and on and on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanting and not wanting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoping and fearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Never realizing we don\u2019t know shit about what\u2019s really important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we really need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we can handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What shapes and molds and colors our stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We simply don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And we desperately want to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n
