And let\u2019s say that you\u2019d really love to play it exactly the way you want to play it.<\/p>\n
Your rules, your preferences, your ideas.<\/p>\n
Your way.<\/p>\n
Can you?<\/p>\n
Well, of course.<\/p>\n
Of course you can.<\/p>\n
Except when you take an outside rule that says you can\u2019t, and make that more important than yours.<\/p>\n
So don\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n
Use your own rules and change them if you want to and as often as you want to (you can do whatever you want, remember?).<\/p>\n
We are living in a made-up world anyway, and I consider that to be good news.<\/p>\n
Amazing, even.<\/p>\n
Because it means (here we go again) you can do whatever you want.<\/p>\n
It means you really have nothing to lose.<\/p>\n
Playing this game the way I want to play it, has turned out to be incredibly exciting and invigorating, even though it can also seem quite scary and even a bit dangerous in the beginning.<\/p>\n
But fuck that.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s how I use my rules in a specific way.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s take my coaching career as an example.<\/p>\n
When it comes to this profession, I\u2019ve learned over the last years that I am absolutely unwilling to compromise.<\/p>\n
I am simply not interested in downplaying my intuitive power, not anymore.<\/p>\n
I used to dramatically water down the way I want to do this gig, because people told me that would be the wisest thing to do, and I was insecure (like most of us are).<\/p>\n
I heard them say things like:<\/p>\n
\u2018In the corporate world, people are not interested in spirituality.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018If a person is not inclined to pay what you ask them, maybe you can lower your price a bit because at least you\u2019ll have a couple of clients.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018Well, they always work with five minute pitches, so you\u2019d better go with that.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018Something is better than nothing.\u2019<\/p>\n
And all of that is as true as you believe it to be.<\/p>\n
But it\u2019s mostly a lack of courage and balls, trying really hard to come across as responsible and smart and sustainable behavior.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s just safety, and caution, and mediocrity.<\/p>\n
Fuck that too.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t go for responsible and sensible and reasonable, if that\u2019s not how you really want to play the game.<\/p>\n
People who try to sell that stuff to you, are mostly selling it to themselves.<\/p>\n
Feeling safe within the framework of your choices works better if other people do the same, and so we want others to be like us.<\/p>\n
Predictable.<\/p>\n
Safe.<\/p>\n
Playing by the general rules.<\/p>\n
But, again, fuck that, and then fuck it again.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s boring, and uninspiring, and, well, even more boring.<\/p>\n
It lacks almost everything that makes this little trip on earth worth while.<\/p>\n
Life is a game, an amazing, creative, colorful, ever changing game.<\/p>\n
And the best games are supposed to be exhilarating, and fun, and adventurous, and they are supposed to be occasions where you can lose yourself in order to find what you\u2019re REALLY made of.<\/p>\n
Let those awesome feelings guide you, not the ideas that make sense, that feel safe, that sound like they will be accepted by the majority of other players.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t wait for better circumstances, don\u2019t wait for life to give you the green light, and don\u2019t wait for easy: if you want to play your way, do it now, right now.<\/p>\n
Set up your own rules and go all in.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s your game.<\/p>\n
