{"id":31938,"date":"2021-05-28T20:51:22","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T20:51:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/?p=31938"},"modified":"2021-05-28T21:03:11","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T21:03:11","slug":"nice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/2021\/05\/28\/nice\/","title":{"rendered":"Nice."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>I have a new rule in my life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like it a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It presented itself about a week ago, and it goes like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2018If I can\u2019t be nice, I don\u2019t do anything until I can be nice again.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s my Shitty Mood Response Prevention System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So when I get pissed off, or frustrated, or messed up by opinions, or something puts me out of balance in any other way, and I&#8217;m expected to respond, I&#8217;m out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no room for habitual reactivity shit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elvis leaves the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might take five minutes, it might take a day, maybe even a week (probably not, but you just never know).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But unless I\u2019m capable of being gentle, and understanding, and polite, and respectful, and reasonable, I don\u2019t respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not a single word, not the slightest gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I just wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wait it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And as soon as I feel I can be genuinely nice again, I do whatever there is left to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just trying to be a nice guy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like it a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Photo by @allthestories, for Unsplash)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a new rule in my life.
