It\u2019s one of the biggest misconceptions around.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n
A real nasty motherfucker.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
What I\u2019m talking about?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The idea that life is logical, and that KNOWING equals control.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It doesn\u2019t.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And we experience this misconception All The Time.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW that this guy is bad for me, but I just keep inviting him into my world again and again!\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW I should give up smoking because it ruins my health, but I just can\u2019t stick to it.\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW there\u2019s no use in worrying, but I do it anyway.\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW I am making all this up, but it feels bad just the same.\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW that I am not ultimately a flawed person, but I keep having these thoughts that tell me the opposite.\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW that my fear of this started when I was five, but how come that doesn\u2019t help me?\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2018I KNOW that the future doesn\u2019t really exist outside of my imagination, but the uncertainty paralyzes me just the same!\u2019<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And so on.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And on.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
So why is KNOWING something so utterly unhelpful and unpractical most of the time, even though it seems so powerful and sensible when we consider it?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Why do we keep believing in the unbridled power of logic, even if we feel totally lost in the execution of that same logic every single day?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Because our mind really likes the idea.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Because it makes sense, it has a soothing linearity in it, a black-and-whiteness.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Because it creates the notion of ease and order and control.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Even though, again and again and again and again, life shows us that it doesn\u2019t work like this (it really, REALLY doesn\u2019t, at all).<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Even though we are almost constantly confused.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
What is going on?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Well, the thing is: most of the time we live and behave in a really unconscious way.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And so we are mostly controlled by our habits and automations and preferences and all the other things that decide for us because we\u2019re used to be used by them.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It\u2019s a state of profound unclarity, a place where logic just doesn\u2019t stand a chance.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Most of the time our knowing gets easily washed away by the deep, unconscious urge to feel safe and relaxed and good in the moment, instantly, right now.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Logic is merely a construct within the perfect randomness of life, a non-existing raft on an endless mental ocean.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Logic just sounds cool.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But it\u2019s simply not how we operate.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
People are sloppy creatures.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Beautiful, amazing, awesome, but sloppy.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And if we want to be free from behaving like freaked out robots, we\u2019ll HAVE to become aware of who we truly are, and what we are not.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
That which is not the thinking.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
That which is endlessly bigger than the ideas we hang on to.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Somewhere along the line we\u2019ll have to drop logic, and fall into direct experience.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And all of it will finally make sense.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
