I post a poem and someone contests it.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

I write a blog and there\u2019s opposition.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I share a thought and I encounter disagreement.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
So\u2026 what to do?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
There used to be a powerful, anxious tendency to defend what I put out there with everything I have.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
To fight my battles, to win the debates.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Over and over again.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But that seems so ridiculously trivial right now.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And it’s a choice.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Not inherently good or bad.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
A choice with consequences, though, so an interesting and important one.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
There\u2019s the short term satisfaction of winning the discussion, slapping a person in the face with a big ole bag of arguments.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
There\u2019s the idea of safety when how you feel about life is successfully defended and enhanced.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
There\u2019s even the idea that making your point will make the world a better place.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Well, maybe, sure.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Not inherently good or bad.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
But I\u2019ve kinda lost interest in this part of the dance.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
People can totally have the win, take away the first prize, feel like they\u2019ve dominated me with their ideas and knowledge.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I don\u2019t care.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
They can have it all.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Oh, the lightness of that.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The freedom.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
