I\u2019ve been asked that question many times.<\/p>\n
In my advertising years, for example, a lot of clients wanted me to train their PR-teams, their management department or their help desk people, and teach them how to write compelling, fresh stuff.<\/p>\n
On Facebook and Twitter and LinkedIn, I\u2019ve been approached by dozens of (semi-)contacts about revealing my writing secrets and tricks.<\/p>\n
And I never did, but not because I didn\u2019t want to.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the simple truth: I don\u2019t know why I write what I write and how I do it.<\/p>\n
I just sit down and write.<\/p>\n
I can\u2019t break up the creative process in handsome, clever pieces that, when ingested, result in being able to write like me (and I think that shouldn\u2019t be the goal anyway).<\/p>\n
Writing is something I\u2019ve been doing for over thirty years, and it has become second nature to me.<\/p>\n
I really don\u2019t care about my writing anymore, I don\u2019t think about it, and that\u2019s why it is what it is.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s real, direct, unfiltered, unpolished, unapologetic.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s straight from the source, and that abstract quality is what makes it fresh and (so I\u2019ve heard) interesting.<\/p>\n
I just learned to get out of my own way and let it happen.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve become REALLY familiar with leaning back into flow and go WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!<\/p>\n
And that\u2019s why there are thousands and thousands of people who can write way \u2018better\u2019 than I do, who are technically perfect and measure every precious word for hours and know everything about building up a story and use the rules about keeping people engaged and how to create a novel and all that stuff, but still don\u2019t seem to create interesting stories or articles.<\/p>\n
If you want to write stuff that feels alive, sparkling, exciting, you have to write from that place of plenty.<\/p>\n
Not from your head.<\/p>\n
You have to dip your proverbial fountain pen in the well of pure potential and splash whatever comes to mind on the blank canvas of possibility.<\/p>\n
Or something like that.<\/p>\n
But you have to learn to not give a fuck.<\/p>\n

Cool writing will be a result.<\/p>\n
