{"id":30299,"date":"2019-11-14T14:50:58","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T14:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/?p=30299"},"modified":"2019-11-14T14:50:58","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T14:50:58","slug":"hugging-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marnix.nl\/homepage\/welkom\/2019\/11\/14\/hugging-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Hugging words."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The last time I checked, I wasn\u2019t braindead.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or stupid.<\/p>\n<p>Yet every piece of writing I do is an exercise in redundancy.<\/p>\n<p>I know that today\u2019s pain will be gone tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>I am well aware of the fact that the problems that deeply haunt me right now, will look like old chewing gum spots on the sidewalk next year.<\/p>\n<p>I know it\u2019s \u2018just my thinking creating feelings in the moment\u2019, and that \u2018thoughts are fleeting and transient and impersonal\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>I chew on stuff that won\u2019t mean very much in the future, that will dissolve no matter how hard I try to hold on to it, yet I keep on writing.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because I feel the need to remind myself of the fact that we\u2019re okay.<\/p>\n<p>Writing down obvious stuff feels like putting my crap on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like giving myself a quick hug, or a loving slap in the face when I start dreaming this character into an ocean of sorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Writing down the things that are only temporary painful or confusing, makes them less painful or confusing, temporarily.<\/p>\n<p>Each new word, no matter how stale or mundane it is, creates some distance between the illusion of suffering and the unbroken Self.<\/p>\n<p>Every sentence becomes part of the ground I can stand on, while I felt like drowning.<\/p>\n<p>There is consolation in stating the obvious, because the obvious sometimes seems a continent or galaxy away, and a simple reminder of its close proximity is all it takes to create a fresh bit of freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Writing during moments of lostness is healing, for me and, I guess, at least sometimes, for you as well.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why it\u2019s both useless and utterly powerful.<\/p>\n<p>Part of being human is forgetting what we\u2019re also the universe.<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s your reminder.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The last time I checked, I wasn\u2019t braindead.
